I’ve been writing children’s books for many years now.
Well, grab a cuppa and let me tell you why I write and why reading to your little ones is still one of the best things you can do. And no, I’m not just saying that cos I write!
A little about me!
I’ve been writing children’s books for many years now.
I have taught in primary and secondary schools as a registered and
qualified teacher for seven years. Previous to that I was an ordained minister in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Palmerston North, New Zealand. I have also tutored students in a voluntary capacity and has instructed adults in the use of the Internet.
I received a Bachelor of Education from Flinders University (2003), Teaching English as a Second language and studied Creative Writing for 4 years both at Adelaide TAFE.
I am sort after freelance writer for Upworks, and have become one of their
preferred writers.
Why I believe eeading for children is so Important
It’s Not Just About the Story**
When you open a book like one of my stories, you’re not just reading words on a page. You’re creating a whole experience. You can enjoy The snuggling. The silly voices. That warm feeling when your kid leans into you and points at the pictures.
That’s the magic right there.
Your Kids’ Brains Are Like Little Sponges**
One thing I know for sure is that when you read to kids, their brains go absolutely bonkers (in a good way!). They’re:
– **Building vocabulary** like crazy – way more than from screens
– **Learning how stories work** – beginning, middle, end, all that good stuff
– **Figuring out emotions** through characters (super important!!)
– **Getting ready to read themselves** without even knowing it
I’ve seen kids who get read to regularly or read for themselves just understand language better. It’s like they’ve got a secret superpower.
It’s Your Special Thing
So please read more to your kids even if it is not my stories!
